LAST DARK RIDE Update
Right now I've turned my attention to my 3rd short story collection, which I had first begun planning way back in early 2017 (and the first stories written for which were begun as far back as 2015), but which has kind of been stagnating as of recent. I THOUGHT I had completed it about a year ago, in February 2018, but then late last year I ended up cutting one story and replacing it with another. Now I've decided to also remove the second story ("The Muse") as that will be released as a chapbook by EibonVale later on this year and I'd like to have that exist as kind of a unique standalone. Which means I'll need to write something new to replace that one as well (groan). I've also decided that the collection needs another ringer, so I hope to write a novella for the very start of the collection, "La Ville empoisonnée," which will be set in late 19th-century Paris and kind of be a homage to the Decadent/Symbolist writers of that era I enjoy... I actually conceived of that idea way back in late 2016 but haven't gotten the courage to write it yet... I'll probably try to get to that this summer.
So, the new contents will probably be:
1. La Ville empoisonnée (to be written)
2. Home Invasion (complete)
3. Black Noise (complete)
4. Columbarium Horribilis Domibus (to be written)
5. The Lovers Reversed (complete)
6. XYschaton (complete)
7. Epistles From the Sunken Track (complete)
8. Stigmata Martyr (mostly complete)
9. The Madonna of the Cobwebs (complete)
10. Snapper's Salvation (complete)
11. Cannons (mostly complete)
12. Chaoskampf (complete)
BONUS: The Lemming Syndrome (complete)
I estimate the total page amount to be a little over 250 pages.
The original working title for the collection was A WOUND WITH NINE OPENINGS & OTHER MINIKIN ABYSMS, but that sounded a bit pretentious to me so last year I changed it to LAST DARK RIDE. More recently (as in last month) I added a subtitle: LAST DARK RIDE: TALES OF THE GROTESQUE AND THE ABSURD
Hopefully I can have it done by the end of summer this year so I can begin the tedious process of shopping it around. I do have a few other uncollected (non-horror) short stories done at the moment, which will be saved for a hypothetical future (non-horror orientated) collection.

HARLEM SMOKE Day on Dennis Cooper's Blog
As mentioned previously this weekend sees Dennis Cooper's blog hosting my Day devoted to HARLEM SMOKE. For those interested, I spend a bit of time (okay, maybe a little more than a bit of time) discussing how I came up with the idea and the writing process behind the book, what inspired the novel, notes on the soundtrack, plus lots of photographs from the city of Providence (many taken by me) depicting some of the real-life locations that appear in the book.
Hopefully this is the last general update I'll need to do for the time being as I'm getting sick of typing those two words 'Harlem Smoke!'

HARLEM SMOKE now out
So today's the official release date for my novel HARLEM SMOKE. As you can imagine it may be purchased through most of the usual channels (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and what have you). Soon you should be able to purchase it off the Snuggly site itself, which will be the way to go if you want to get a hardcover copy.
I'm aware that $24 seems like a lot to pay for a trade paperback, but in all fairness at nearly 400 pages it's not exactly a short novel! Anyway, if you're interested in (or are looking for a gift for someone who might be interested in) Lovecraftian horror, Thomas Harris-esque police procedurals, Providence antiquarian architecture, or are just looking for a book that features scenes depicting attractive homosexuals having long and pretentious coffee house conversations touching on Nietzsche, Gnosticism, Pessimism, and the occult connection between Ray Brassier's Transcendental Nihilism and Kim Kardashian's Alpha-Narcissism, well, then this might be the kind of book that captures your fancy.
I know there are some writers who pay close attention to the people reading their books and afterwards contact the reader to try to persuade them to post reviews on Goodreads or Amazon or wherever. I don't want to be that guy so I'll just say here that if you like it and feel the urge to post a review somewhere, great, you have my sincere thanks (really, positive or negative reviews, I don't care, so long as it's being reviewed period and that people are talking about it!).
I'll post a reminder on the day itself, but this coming weekend Dennis Cooper's blog will be hosting a day devoted to the book, which might be of interest to some.

HARLEM SMOKE cover reveal/other news
Today Snuggly Books revealed the front cover art for Harlem Smoke, my upcoming horror novel (which is due to be published in January 2019).
They also released the official description for the novel:
"A gay, black antinatalist, Isaac Grimalkin isn’t your typical H.P. Lovecraft fan. Back in 1996 Isaac was the sole member of the Dunwich Posse, an experimental Lovecraftian horrorcore hip-hop act that released Harlem Smoke, a groundbreaking album chronicling the gruesome exploits of its titular monster. But when his album began to inspire real-life copycat crimes, Isaac abandoned his musical career at the height of his fame.
Flash-forward to 2015. Once again living in the city of Providence, Rhode Island, Isaac, now 38, has reinvented himself as a Pickman-esque painter of the morbid and the macabre. He wishes to forget his past; but his life gradually takes a hellish descent when an interview with a music magazine resurrects public interest in the Dunwich Posse. Meanwhile, local women are being murdered in a variety of grotesque scenarios that seem directly inspired by the lyrics of Isaac’s old, cursed album. As police suspicion mounts, Isaac begins investigating his family’s sinister history, in search of answers for just who (or what) the elusive Harlem Smoke actually is: an interior quest that could lead to his own annihilation.
Set in a social realist modern-day Providence where paradoxical dimensions of cosmic horror are only a stone’s throw away, Harlem Smoke is a creative re-imagining of the artistic potentialities of the Lovecraftian novel."

Now that the Harlem Smoke project is nearing its publication date, I have to figure out what to do with Last Dark Ride, my 3rd short story collection. As it stands I have about 10 stories in it ready to go (originally it was 11 but one of them, "A Gig at Thanatos," was cut recently: that same story was also cut from my first collection, though it had a different name then, which should tell you all you need to know). But I haven't begun the process of sending it around to publishers yet, for the simple reason that one of its stories will be published separately as a chapbook next year, and I'll have to wait until at least a year afterwards before it can appear elsewhere. One thing I'm considering is just cutting that latter story out of the collection as well, and replacing it with something else, but not totally sure... after all, that would entail writing another story, something I'm loathe to do... or maybe I can just be patient and wait it out.
I also need to figure out what I'll be doing with my novella The Tangled Light, which I wrote last summer/fall. That's kind of an odd one (and I don't think I've even mentioned it much on here) but it's a semi-autobiographical (and also semi-fictional) account of the time I played a vampire doctor for a Halloween play in the 4th grade, in 1989. I say it's an odd book because I tried really hard in it to not mention Lovecraft once (ditto for Kenneth Grant, though I did nick the novella's title from the working titles of one of his own novellas).
Actually, what I REALLY need to do is figure out what my next major project will be, period, but that's a whole other issue!
